On September 11, 2018, During the 8th UNESCO World Geopark Congress, the delegation of Zhang Jiajie, deputy mayor Luo Zhibin met with the delegation of Aloka, Portugal, and held an exchange meeting. The two sides signed a sister park agreement.

In 2014, During the inspection and evaluation of the Zhangjiajie World Geopark, Professor Artur Sa, Portuguese Aloka expert, expressed strong interest in the world-famous Zhangjiajie quartz sandstone landform and gave high praise. I hope to establish a friendly and cooperative relationship with the Zhangjiajie World Geopark and recommend it to the municipal government of Alocca, Portugal.

In September 2017, during the 14th European World Geopark Congress, Zhangjiajie and Aloka delegation reached a consensus on the establishment of sister parks.

The Aloka World Geopark in Portugal is located in the north of Portugal and is the second member of Portugal to be approved as a network of European Geoparks and a network of global geoparks. The park has a total area of about 330 square kilometers and is divided by narrow valleys with an average elevation of 200 to 600 meters. The rivers and slopes associated with the current hydrological system are deposited in accordance with the Quaternary modern sedimentary unit, and its high content of Ordovician Discrete slate and the peculiar phenomena associated with specific rock masses have become the main geological features of the park. The park's geological heritage catalogue contains 41 geological sites, including the Canelas slate site and the on-site museum, and the Castanheira structural granite is of particular international importance.
