The photo taken on the afternoon of May 23 show students learn to make Zongzi, a pyramid-shaped dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves, at Wangfuyuan Primary School in Kaifu District, Changsha. On the same day, the school held an activity to greet the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, or Duanwu Festival. Students, parents, and teacher representatives were invited to make and send Zongzi to elderly persons with no families and poorer families. (Photo/ Tian Chao, Zhang Yijia, Hunan Daily)

Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, falls on the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional Chinese calendar. In China, the festival commemorates the death of the poet and minister Qu Yuan (c. 340–278 BC) of the ancient state of Chu during the Warring States period of the Zhou Dynasty.
