Thangka Exhibition Opens in Changsha

A Thangka exhibition opened in Changsha Li Zijian Art Museum on June 18, displaying more than 100 pieces of Thangka made by Guoluo Xirebu, a famous Tibetan Thangka painter and the interior of Thangka- a national intangible cultural heritage item.

The exhibition will last till July 16.

Thangka is a unique ancient form of art in Tibetan culture. It is a traditional mounted Tibetan scroll painting with various religious functions. The content varies from Tibetan history, religion, culture to society. Thangka is often considered the "encyclopedia of the Tibetan people’s life".

These exquisite Thangka works with bright colors, strict composition, and delicate brushwork amazed visitors. The themes varied from the life of the Buddha to the history and folk customs of Tibetan nationality, demonstrating Xirebu’s rich imagination and excellent painting skills.

Xirebu has formed his own artistic characteristics during more than 30 years of practice. He has created more than 400 pieces of Thangka and held tour exhibitions at home and abroad.

During the exhibition, a series of activities will be held, including Thangka painting live creation, Thangka appreciation conference, and presentations of folk customs related to Thangka art.
