Boat Race Held in Fenghuang Ancient Town to Mark Dragon Boat Festival

The 2013 Fenghuang County Dragon Boat Racing was unveiled on the Tuojiang River on June 11 to mark the annual Dragon Boat Festival which falls on June 12 this year.

Fenghuang organizes the dragon boat racing-a traditional Chinese sport to celebrate the annual Dragon Boat Festival and showcase its local folk culture.

The team consisting of Maogusi dancers wearing clothes made of straw attracted the most attention. Sturdy male competitors whose faces were decorated with several white and black lines look manlier. Women participants' impressive bending to oars won thunder cheers from visitors on both banks.

Fenghuang arranges a series of local original dramas for tourists prior to the end of July, including Fenghuang Yang Opera, Fenghuang Wenchadeng Opera, and Fenghuang Tantang Opera. They will also have opportunities to enjoy site performances of some intangible cultural heritage items such as silver forging of Miao people and Miao Huagu Opera.
