Zhangjiajie Witnesses Robust Increase in Tourists from Europe and America

"Oh my god!" a group of young European and American tourists were amazed at the "First Ladder in the World" in Yuanjiajie Scenic Area of Zhangjiajie on June 11. From January to May this year, Zhangjiajie has received over 10,000 travelers from Europe and America, a two-fold increase over the same period last year.

Shortage of European and American tourists is considered as Achilles' heel of tourism industry in Zhangjiajie. In recent years, the city has taken pertinent measures to revive the depressed European and American markets. The prototype of "Hallelujah floating mountains" in the film Avatar enables European and American tourists to appreciate the mysterious and charming Zhangjiajie landform. In addition, a series of challenge activities such as Breath-holding Contest in Baofeng Lake, Wingsuit Flying Contest in Tianmen Mountain and Iron Man Climbing Highest Outdoor Elevator, which were mainly participated in by European and American masters, draw eyeballs of audience from western countries. The annual International Country Music Week held every two years since 2009 has attracted many famous Western musical teams.
