Joint Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition of Four Provinces Opens in Hubei

The First Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition of Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, and Anhui Provinces, jointly organized by the cultural departments of the four provinces, kicked off in Hubei Museum of Art on May 23. A delegation led by Zhu Jiangang and Meng Qingshan, director and deputy director of the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture respectively, attended the exhibition.

At the Hunan exhibition hall, Zhong Jiantong, who is from Longhui County, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province, was unhurriedly holding a mane brush and making new year paintings. He is an inheritor of Tantou New Year painting and also procurator of Procuratorate of Longhui Conuty.

Zhong's parents, both aged above 80, are representative inheritors of the national intangible cultural heritage Tantou New Year painting. Zhong returned home a few years ago, and spent one year mastering the skills of Tantou New Year paintings.

Hunan's 60 items of intangible cultural heritage, with local cultural flavors, good productive protection, and promising prospects, were on display at the exhibition. Representative inheritors of 10 items made handicrafts at the exhibition, consisting of Shaoyang glove puppet show, Tantou New Year painting, Hunan embroidery, Baoqing bamboo engraving, paintings of Miao ethnic group, Changsha palm leaf weaving, inserted embroidery of Miao ethnic group, Daqiao paper cutting, weaving skills of Dong brocades, and bamboo weaving crafts.
