Fishing in Dongting Lake Banned for Spring Time

The fishing in Dongting Lake will be forbidden from March 10th lasting for over three months. Finless porpoise protection is the emphasis of this time.

The ban lasts from March 10 to June 30 in the whole Dongting Lake. All fishing activities will be prohibited in the prescribed time and areas. Efforts should be made to ensure that all boats are in harbor, that all fishing nets are in storehouse, that all people are on shore and that all permits are centralized. In addition, active work will be done to guarantee that there will be no fishing boats in the lake, no fishing nets in water and no fish from the lake on the market.

During the period, local fishery superintendency agency will intensify punishment on illegal fishing in Dongting Lake, and will conduct more law enforcement inspection together with public security organs and the industry & commerce departments.

Dock, harbor, market, freezer and water should be strictly checked. Relevant provisions of spring fishing ban must be implemented to crack down on illegal fishing.
