China's First Waste Battery Recycling Base Established in Hunan Loudi
2016-12-20 18:00:17

By the end of September this year, China's first waste battery recycling base was officially established in Wanbao New District of Loudi City, Hunan Province.

Though China has become the world's biggest battery manufacturer and consumer, the rate of battery recycling is less than 2% with an output of 950,000 tons of waste batteries every year. In addition, as there is no enterprise specialized in waste battery recycling in China, the disordered recycling of waste battery has put great pressure on the environment. To tackle these challenges, Central South University (CSU) and Loudi-based enterprises exerted their complementary advantages and jointly established China's first waste battery recycling base in Loudi.

On the establishment day, Loudi Municipal People's Government and CSU co-hosted a large-scale public benefit activity at Louxing Square of Loudi City. Themed with "Caring for the Earth by Turning Waste into Valuable Materials", the activity attracted more than 2,000 young volunteers and enthusiastic citizens. More than 100,000 waste batteries were recycled during the activity.
