China's Top Ten Pavilions to Apply for UNESCO Tangible Cultural Heritage

It was announced on September 28 that China's top ten pavilions of great cultural significance will sign the "Changsha Declaration" to jointly apply for a spot on the list of tangible cultural heritage established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Ognization (UNESCO).

The ten pavilions include Yueyang Pavilion (Yueyang City, Hunan Province), Yellow Crane Pavilion (Wuhan City, Hubei Province), Tengwang Pavilion (Pavilion of Prince Teng) (Nanchang City), Guanque Pavilion (Yongji City, Shanxi Province), Penglai Pavilion (Penglai City, Shandong Province), Daguan Pavilion (Great View Pavilion) (Kunming City, Yunnan Province), Yuejiang Pavilion (Yangtze Pavilion) (Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province), Tianxin Pavilion (Changsha City, Hunan Province), Bell Tower and Drum Tower (Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province), and Tianyi Pavilion (Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province).

The declaration will be signed at the 2012 Mayor's Forum on China's Well-known Historical and Cultural Pavilions & the 9th Annual Symposium on Renowned Pavilions that is set to run from November 2 to 4 in Changsha.

Themed with "Culture: root and soul of a city", the grand event is composed of six theme activities, including the cultural forum on the renowned pavilions, signing of citizens from the ten cities to support the application, the musical fireworks display on the Orange Isle, and "Pavilion Hosts Eye Changsha".

Participating cities will have an extensive discussion on the way to effectively integrate their cultural resources, promote their traditional culture, build a modern urban culture, and upgrade their images and soft power.
