Free Public Transport Brings Travel Change in China

Since the launch of free public transport in Changning City, a county-level city in Hengyang, 800 motorcycles and private cars have decreased their daily trip, reducing emission by more than 35,000 m3 and saving a lot of fuel.

In the past, motorcycles and private cars were main means of transportation in Changning; the stream of people, heavy traffic, and disorder in some sections caused safety risks. Thanks to the free public transport, the traffic order has been greatly improved.

The less traffic flow has reduced noise pollution. There has been more public space, which plays a good role in creating a livable environment.
