Zhangjiajie is named for the 2010 Chinese Cities with the Most Overseas Influence.

The Awarding Ceremony of "2010 Chinese Cities with the Most Overseas Influence" was held in Hong Kong on January 19, 2011. China's 60 cities gained this honor, including Zhangjiajie, a famous tourist city in Hunan Province.

Lasting for one year, the activity was organized by Ta Kung Pao, the oldest active Chinese language newspaper in China. The 60 award-wining cities were recognized by the domestic and overseas people for their strong economic influence, overall influence, and cultural influence. Zhangjajie's rich tourism resources such as its unique landform in the world and extraordinarily charming scenery appealed to the overseas visitors, thereby wining this honor.

In 2010, Zhangjiajie received 23.5 million domestic and overseas visitors including 1.4 million inbound tourists, and obtained the tourism revenue of 12.5 billion yuan, up 21.9%, 73%, and 24.8% respectively over the previous year, taking the lead among the cities of its kind in the country, according to Zhangjiajie Mayor Zhao Xiaoming at the awarding ceremony.
