Herba Houttuyniae (Yuxing Cao)
2016-12-20 16:46:15  Zhangjiajie Tourism Information Website

Herba Houttuyniae is a kind of perennial herb which grows in moist soil among mountains. It is named such name as its fishlike smell. Many people at first smell of it probably hate it. However, people in ZJJ make it a so delicious food that people fervently love it.

Not only its leaf but also its root can both be made into cool, refreshing and tasty food. ZJJ people usually mix its leaves or roots with chopped pepper, vinegar and some other ingredients. In this way, it takes less fishlike smell and flavor and tastes crisp and refreshing. Not only that, it is able to clear away heat and toxic materials inside, which is quite good to our health.

I’ve tasted Herba Houttuyniae sold in different food shops. There is a pot-stewed meat or fowl shop where the root of Herba Houttuyniae here is the best I’ve ever tasted. It sells at a price of 16 Yuan per kilo and the shop locates near the Bian Mao market and there is a Fruit Store of Green Voyage (Lv Hang Fruit Store) on the opposite of the shop. You could get here by taking NO.2, N0.3, or NO.6 bus. Hope you have a nice journey in ZJJ!
