On the morning of August 13,2009, A starting ceremony for the construction of the first contract section of Zhangjiajie-Huayuan (hereinafter referred to as Zhanghua Expressway), undertaken by China Railway 25th Bureau Group, was held in Zhangjiajie. Up to date, all the 34 construction organizations of the expressway have started their construction work, symbolizing the comprehensive and rapid construction of Zhanghua Expressway.

As the second horizontal way among “Five vertical and seven horizontal expressways” of Hunan provincial expressway network, Zhanghua Expressway is an important component of expressway from Liuyang in Hunan province (bordering Jiangxi province) to Huayuan (bordering Chongqing). Started from Yanghuping Town of Yongding District in Zhangjiajie City, Zhanghua Expressway connects Changde-Zhangjiajie Expressway and Jishou-Chadong Expressway. By way of Yongding District in Zhangjiajie City, Yongshun County and Baojing County in Xiangxi prefecture and Huayuan County, the expressway runs 146.848km.

With the total investment of 13.1 billion Yuan and the expected construction period of 48 months, Zhanghua Expressway is scheduled to open to traffic in 2012. Since then it will only take about 4 hours’ drive from Huayuan of Xiangxi prefecture to Changsha or Chongqing. It will have fundamental significance to the perfection of Hunan expressway network and economic development of Zhangjiajie and its surrounding areas.

At present, land along the Zhanghua Expressway has been available. The 34 construction organizations positively answer the call of Zhangjiajie-Huayan Expressway Construction Development Co., Ltd to ensure high quality and rapid construction of Zhanghua Expressway.
