Miao Drum Dance in Western Hunan
2016-12-20 16:49:25  Zhangjiajie Tourism Information Website

Generally, Miao drums performance mainly has two types: one is for celebrating the New Year, and the other for celebrating the deity. As the gradual change of Miao people’s aesthetic taste and inheritage of strains of music accompanied by drumbeats, Miao people now usually express their emotions by performing drums in some important days, like eighth of the fourth month, around the Spring Festival, wedding or welcome for guest, harvest celebration and so on.

Miao drum performance is also called drum dance, showing great territoriality. Owing to some factors such as Miao culture, history and aesthetic taste, Miao drum dance has a narrative performing style, and this is seen as a unique characteristic. Drum dance displays Miao people’s living and working scenes by the way of vivid dance movements. Without doubt, drum dance is a historical picture showing the life of Miao people.
