Bai Nationality’s Washing Faces to Wish for Harmony
2016-12-20 16:49:26  Zhangjiajie Tourism Information Website

There are many Bai people in Zhangjiajie, which makes Bai nationality one of the main nationalities in Zhangjiajie. What kind of local characteristics of wedding customs does Bai nationality there share?

In Zhangjiajie, newly-married couple have to wash their faces in the first three days in three different ways to wish for harmony in the following life. The first morning, one elder from the bride’s side prepares a basin of warm water and soaks the facecloth in order to show the wish from bride’s side. Then, newly-married couple wash their faces and hands using one of the ends. The second day, the bridegroom’s parents prepare a basin of warm water for the newly-married couple in order to show their expectation. And the newly-married couple share the same basin of water and the same facecloth with each other to wash their faces. The third day, the newly-married couple scoop up a basin of water together and wash each other’s face in order to show mutual consideration.

In their following marriage life, husband and wife would recall these scenes and be reconciled again soon if they had some small contradiction sometimes.
