The excellent art treasure-Miao nationality songs
2016-12-20 16:49:31  Zhangjiajie Tourism Information Website

Miao songs are art treasures in our long lasting art river. The contents of it are abundant and multitudinous. Their singing style is close to folk song (sung in the fields during or after work). Miao songs usually lie in the following occasions: love, fete, marriage or celebrating the harvest and so on. If you have chance to pay a visit the western Hunan someday, I guess it can be seen as a good choice to appreciate how appealing these songs are. Just like our Chinese saying goes “It is better to see for oneself rather than to hear for thousands of times”.

Wu Labao is a female comes from Jishou city (located in the westernHunan), Miao nationality, born in 1962. She is in charge of inheriting the intangible cultural heritage ofHunanprovince--Miao nationality songs.

Up to now, Wu Labao has choreographed more than 1000 programs based on Miao nationality songs. She fosters hundreds of Miao singers and builds a Miao band so that the ability as well as artistry in singing Miao songs has been well developed. As a result, she won the title of “excellent folk artists” in the western Hunan. Her representative works are “Miao nationality thank Chairman Mao” and “hardworking song” and so on. Her songs helped herself gain many trophies in various areas, such as Yunnan province and Guizhou province. Some presses regard Wu Labao as “the influential leading exponent in singing Miao nationality songs”.
