2016-12-20 16:49:31  Zhangjiajie Tourism Information Website

ZJJ Traditional Custom-Climbing a ladder of knives is usually showed by some Miao warriors on the occasion of important festivals. The ladder of knives is made up of a tall wooden pole (over 10 meters), on which 36 sharp steel knives are equipped, with their edges upwards. On the top of the ladder, multicolored penoncels are tied, standing for hope and victory.

For those people who are brave enough to climb the ladder, skills is also essential. The more upward, the sharper the knives are. What’s more, in the process of climbing, people also need to put all their abilities and skills into good use. Generally speaking, climbing a ladder of knives is seen as a thrilling show, is a kind of self-sacrifice, and is a reflection on the past life of Miao people. Not only blood and sweat are left on the ladder of knives, but also happiness and sweetness.
